Mobula Ray Expedition – Baja California Sur

Our expedition in Baja California Sur gave us a broad look at the region’s seasonal wildlife. While we spent time searching for the large schools of mobula rays that pass through the area, the trip ended up being just as much about the other species we encountered along the way.

Pantropical spotted dolphins regularly appeared around the boat, riding the bow and offering quick opportunities for photos. We also had close passes from silky sharks, encounters with curious pufferfish near the surface, and a memorable moment with a pod of pilot whales moving slowly through deeper water. Each day brought something different, and no two outings felt the same.

The conditions shifted constantly — visibility, wind, and swell all played a role — but the variety of wildlife made the experience worthwhile regardless of how many mobulas we found on a given day. Baja’s open ocean has a way of surprising you, and that unpredictability is a big part of what makes trips here so rewarding.
